The experience
Our online workshop covers three modules: space, climate change and film-making.
Our facilitators do everything
The idea is that students attend outside school hours, since teachers don’t need to do anything: our online facilitators guide the students from beginning to end. If you prefer, the workshop can of course run during school time as well.
Modules 1 and 2 take three hours, including breaks. The third module is still in development.
What the modules cover
Space
The basics of astronomy (star constellations, the Milky Way, galaxies, the Big Bang and the solar system) and space exploration, from the Moon to Mars. Above all, how space actually works: how rockets work, the different orbits around the Earth, what satellites are made of, and the basics of Earth observation and remote sensing, such as resolution and spectra. Last but not least, the module explains the connection between space and climate change.
Climate change
Climate action is of great importance. We let kids explore what they already know, and learn some more along the way.
Film-making
Mobile phones are powerful tools we often take for granted. What if you could do amazing things with them?
The key message we want kids to take home
Satellites are crucial to our understanding of what is happening on Earth.
The Space4Climate Film Festival
The homework will be to produce a high-quality film. We will upload the films to social media, and the general public will help decide which one is best.
Of course, you will need to promote your film. Or, perhaps better still, choose to promote the best one from your class.

Language
All films with non-English audio must be subtitled in English. Support will be provided in English only, which is a learning goal in itself.
Jury
Judging will happen in two stages: a public vote will determine the finalists, who will then be judged by a professional jury of leaders in film-making, climatology and space.
Awards
Winners will receive plenty of (media) attention, and two people will be able to take part in a global climate change event (such as COP) or attend Space Camp, depending on the winners’ preference.
Registration
A fair fee applies. It is scaled using purchasing power parity (think of the Big Mac Index), so it is equal for everyone, and 100% of the proceeds go to the local workshop facilitators. How do we make money? If we are successful, hopefully through sponsors. If not, that’s no big deal: this endeavour is not about making money.
Pick a time that works for everyone
Facilitators and teachers mark when they are free, then book the overlap. One shared link, no accounts.
